Adjustments of Certain Rates of Pay
Executive Order 14061, issued December 22, 2021, directs updates to federal pay by adjusting the rates of basic pay across a broad set of federal pay systems. The order does not itself list the new dollar amounts; instead, it attaches a series of schedules (Schedules 1–10) that contain the revised pay scales for specific groups, including the General Schedule, Foreign Service, Veterans Health Administration schedules, Senior Executive Service, Executive/Legislative/Judicial salaries, Uniformed Services, Locality-Based Comparability Payments, Administrative Law Judges, and related categories. The new rates take effect on January 1, 2022 or, for other schedules, on the first applicable pay period beginning after January 1, 2022. The order also supersedes a prior executive order (EO 13970) as of those effective dates and directs the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to implement the pay changes and publish notice in the Federal Register.
