Autonomy for All Disabled Veterans Act

The Autonomy for All Disabled Veterans Act would boost the amounts the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) can pay veterans for improvements and structural alterations made to their homes as part of home health services. Specifically, it raises two caps from current levels to $10,000 each: (A)(ii) for improvements and (B)(ii) for structural alterations. The increases apply to veterans who first apply for these benefits on or after the law’s enactment. Veterans who already exhausted their benefits before enactment would not receive additional amounts due to the change. In addition, the bill would add an automatic annual inflation adjustment to these dollar amounts, tied to the residential home cost of construction index, with a provision to hold steady if the index did not rise. The overall goal is to enhance veterans’ ability to live independently at home by allowing more expansive modifications.
