Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act

The Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act would amend the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 to exclude service-connected disability compensation from being counted as income when determining whether a person is low/moderate income, low income, or moderate income. Implemented by states, units of general local government, or Indian tribes, this change would apply to income determinations used for HUD programs. The bill also requires the Comptroller General to submit a report within one year assessing how service-connected disability compensation is treated across HUD-administered programs, identify any inconsistencies with the amendment, and provide recommendations to better serve veterans and underserved communities where such inconsistencies exist. In short, the bill aims to make it easier for disabled veterans receiving VA disability compensation to qualify for HUD housing and community development programs by removing that benefit from income calculations, while also prompting a nationwide review to ensure consistent treatment across HUD programs.
