LEOSA Reform Act
The LEOSA Reform Act would largely expand and harmonize the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) with related federal laws, while clarifying where and how current and retired law enforcement officers may carry concealed firearms. Key changes include adding LEOSA carry rights as an explicit exception to the Gun-Free School Zones Act’s school-zone prohibitions, expanding carry allowances to certain federal facilities and National Park System properties, and aligning firearms-qualification standards used to determine eligibility with a broader set of recognized authorities. The bill also tightens or clarifies when LEOSA protections apply on property used by common carriers and on public-access federal facilities, and it updates some definitional terms used to grant or regulate these rights. Overall, the measure would broaden where qualified current and retired LEOs can carry concealed firearms and clarify training and property-related limitations.
