Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act
The Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act adds new requirements to improve the hygienic handling of breast milk, baby formula, and related items during airport security screening. It requires the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to issue and update guidance within strict timelines, developed in consultation with nationally recognized maternal health organizations, to minimize contamination and ensure hygienic testing during any re-screening or additional screening. The act also expands oversight by obligating the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General to audit compliance within one year and to assess how screening technologies affect the screening process for these items and how often they are denied entry into the sterile area. In short, the bill aims to formalize hygiene standards and oversight for handling infant feeding items at security checkpoints, involving private security screeners as well as TSA personnel.
