Supporting Our Surviving Spouses Act

The Supporting Our Surviving Spouses Act would remove the six-year statute of limitations for certain survivor-benefits claims against the U.S. government. Specifically, it adds a new provision to 31 U.S.C. 3702(b)(1) to guarantee that survivors of armed forces members who died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001 may receive survivor benefits without any time limit for filing or receiving those benefits. The change is prospective, applying only to claims filed on or after enactment.
