ON TIME Act

The ON TIME Act would add a new rule to title 49 of the U.S. Code governing air carriers. When a delay is caused by maintenance or crew-rest issues and there is no replacement aircraft or crew available, airlines would be required to immediately tell affected passengers an estimated duration of the delay. If an immediate estimate isn’t available, the airline must inform passengers that no estimate is yet available and then provide an updated estimate as soon as one becomes available. The notice must be given through the airport public-address system, gate displays, and direct notifications via text, email, and the airline’s mobile app. A new section (41730) would be added to codify this requirement, enforced by the Secretary of Transportation.
