Fair and Equal Housing Act of 2025
The Fair and Equal Housing Act of 2025 would expand the Fair Housing Act’s protections to cover discrimination based on sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity. It adds explicit definitions for gender identity and sexual orientation and extends the amended protections to situations where a person is discriminated against because of someone they associate with, or due to a perception about another’s protected characteristics. It also ensures that acts of intimidation in housing contexts can be punished to include harassment based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Overall, the bill broadens legal protections against housing discrimination to LGBTQ+ individuals and creates stronger enforcement language to address intimidation and related discrimination in housing markets.
