Supporting Healthy Mothers and Infants Act of 2025
The Supporting Healthy Mothers and Infants Act of 2025 would amend the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) under the Child Nutrition Act of 1966. The bill replaces the term “drug abuse” with “substance use disorder” across relevant sections to use terminology that reflects current understandings of substance-related issues. It also adds a new requirement for the Secretary to actively support WIC-eligible individuals impacted by substance use disorder through targeted nutrition education, outreach, and access to evidence-based materials in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services. The bill establishes an online clearinghouse of these educational resources for state agencies and authorizes $1 million for fiscal year 2026 to implement these activities. Additionally, it restructures the statutory subsections to accommodate the new provisions and adjusts certain cross-references accordingly.
