Fisher House Availability Act of 2025
Fisher House Availability Act of 2025 (H.R. 3726) would amend title 38 of the U.S. Code to require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to make its temporary lodging facilities (Fisher Houses) available, on a space-available basis, to a broader group of people than currently eligible. Specifically, it would allow TRICARE beneficiaries (as defined by 10 U.S.C. 1072(5)) who must travel a significant distance to receive care or services at a non-VA facility to stay in Fisher Houses near VA medical facilities. It also extends eligibility to family members and others who accompany the beneficiary and provide familial support. Access would be contingent on space availability and would be governed by criteria established by the VA. The bill also codifies definitions for “covered beneficiary” and “Fisher house,” clarifying who may use these facilities and under what conditions. In short, the bill seeks to broaden access to VA Fisher Houses to certain TRICARE beneficiaries and their accompanying supporters when they must travel far to obtain care away from VA facilities, while preserving the lodging as temporary and space-limited.
