Farmers Feeding America Act of 2025
The Farmers Feeding America Act of 2025 would boost and extend federal support for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) and related food storage, distribution, and procurement infrastructure. Key changes include redirecting and increasing funding for commodity purchases (moving authority through 2030 and establishing $500 million per year for 2026–2030), doubling the storage/distribution funding ceiling (from $100 million to $200 million), and extending EFAP infrastructure grants through 2030. The bill also adds new options for geographically isolated states (such as Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Guam) to receive commodities—through alternative delivery methods and the DoD Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program—and allows a cash transfer option (up to 20% of allocated commodities) to purchase domestically grown food. In procurement of fresh produce, the secretary may consider factors beyond price (e.g., variety and transportation distance) and must prioritize nutrition.
