Dark Web Interdiction Act of 2025
Dark Web Interdiction Act of 2025 aims to curb the distribution of opioids bought or sold on dark web marketplaces. The bill creates a new criminal offense for delivering or aiding the delivery of controlled substances through the dark web, with a sentencing enhancement. It establishes a Joint Criminal Opioid and Darknet Enforcement Task Force within the FBI to coordinate interagency investigations, training, and information sharing across Federal, State, Tribal, local, and international partners. The act also requires annual reporting on the task force’s activities, develops guidance for evidence collection and cyberforensic methods, and directs attention to the use of virtual currencies in funding dark web opioid transactions, including a separate Congressional report within a year. A five-year sunset applies to the task force, with a provision for periodic updates to the definition of “dark web.” Overall, the bill expands legal tools, interagency coordination, and oversight to target dark web-enabled opioid trafficking.
