PARTNER with ASEAN Act of 2025
The PARTNER with ASEAN Act of 2025 would amend the International Organizations Immunities Act (IOIA) to authorize the President to extend the United States’ diplomatic privileges and immunities to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This is not an automatic grant; it allows the President to extend the same immunities and privileges that the U.S. already extends to other public international organizations with which the United States participates, under any treaty or Act of Congress authorizing or funding such participation. In short, if the President determines appropriate terms, ASEAN could receive the same legal protections and immunities in the United States as other international organizations do, facilitating closer cooperation and operations in the U.S. and abroad.
