Helping Student Parents Succeed Act
The Helping Student Parents Succeed Act would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to require every institution of higher education that participates in any Title IV program to develop and publicly post a comprehensive policy for expectant and parenting students. The policy must cover leave options related to pregnancy, birth, or adoption (and related medical conditions), including how students can make up missed work. In addition, institutions must provide a standardized set of information about resources and accommodations for these students, with details on lactation accommodations, financial aid implications, student support services, housing options for students with dependents, rights and protections under federal and state law, and complaint procedures (including Title IX and disability-related protections). The goal is to ensure transparent, accessible, and non-biased information and to improve support for student parents across higher education.
