NCAA Accountability Act of 2025
The NCAA Accountability Act of 2025 would create a federally enforced due-process framework for investigations conducted by any “covered athletic association” over intercollegiate athletics (an organization with authority over intercollegiate athletics and at least 900 member institutions, such as the NCAA). The act requires such associations to provide formal notice, clearly detail alleged violations, and conduct hearings within specific timeframes. It also introduces an independent arbitration option for disputes over penalties, and it authorizes the Department of Justice to investigate and enforce compliance, including Civil penalties and potential removal of governing-body members. In addition, the act obligates annual reporting to the Attorney General and state Attorneys General, and it sets a one-year window for associations to implement these rules after enactment. The aim is to increase transparency, fairness, and consistency in how investigations and punishments are conducted in college sports governance.
