Kids on the Go Act of 2025
The Kids on the Go Act of 2025 would amend title 23 of the U.S. Code to provide a higher federal funding match for Safe Routes to School (SRTS) projects if a state employs a Safe Routes to School coordinator. Specifically, it adds a new provision allowing a 95% federal share for projects or activities eligible under the SRTS program, provided the state has a designated coordinator described in the statute. The goal is to incentivize states to hire coordinators who oversee SRTS efforts, with the expectation that better coordination will improve safety and increase the pace and scale of SRTS projects near schools. In short, states that hire a SRTS coordinator could receive up to 95% federal funding for eligible SRTS projects, subject to existing program rules, while states without such a coordinator would not automatically receive this enhanced match.
