REFOCUS DODEA Act

The REFOCUS DODEA Act would prohibit the use of smartphones by students during the school day in Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools. Within 30 days of enactment, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the DoDEA Director, must issue regulations implementing the ban. The regulations must require students’ smartphones to be placed in lockers or approved storage containers for the duration of the school day, while also permitting exceptions for medical needs or other high-priority situations (such as emergencies). The bill’s aim is to reduce distractions and restore focus in classrooms serving the children of U.S. servicemembers.
