Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act of 2025
The Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue guidance within one year on Medicaid and CHIP coverage for pelvic health services provided during the prenatal or postpartum period. The guidance would promote innovative or evidence-based payment models, outline financing options (including CHIP and related initiatives), offer technical assistance to state agencies to expand access and screening/referral, and suggest standardized terminology and diagnostic codes for pelvic floor issues. The bill also requires a GAO study within one year to identify gaps in coverage for postpartum pelvic health services and for pregnancy-related Medicaid services, proposes a new Postpartum Pelvic Health Education Campaign to educate clinicians and postpartum women, and authorizes funding of $2 million annually for 2026–2030 to support the education campaign and related activities.
