VET Act of 2025
The Veterans Energy Transition Act of 2025 (VET Act of 2025) would create a new grant program administered by the Department of Labor (DOL) to help certain current and former service members and their spouses obtain employment in the energy industry. The bill repeals expired authorities and adds a new section (1152) to title 10, U.S. Code, directing the Secretary of Labor to fund eligible entities that hire covered individuals and support their licensure, training, and other onboarding costs. Grants would be capped per recipient and per year, subject to reporting, audits, and repayment provisions if funds are misused. The act emphasizes coordination with Defense and Veterans Affairs programs (like Transition Assistance, SkillBridge, and Solid Start) to avoid duplication, ensure outreach, and track outcomes. Funding is set at $60 million per year for 2026–2031, with up to 15% of funds allowed for administrative costs. A congressionally directed evaluation and reporting timeline is included, culminating in a 2030 assessment of whether to expand or amend the program. In short, the bill aims to create a federal grant program that bankrolls training and placement in energy jobs for transitioning service members, veterans, and their spouses, while tying program operations to DoD/VA efforts and requiring oversight, reporting, and measurable outcomes.
