LEDGER Act

The LEDGER Act would require the U.S. Treasury to build and implement a new system that tracks every federal outlay from every appropriation, receipt, or other fund account, across all branches of government (executive, legislative, and judicial). The system must also track the period of availability for those funds. The goal is to create adequate traceability and transparency for government expenditures, enabling more precise oversight and financial accountability. The requirement would apply to disbursements even those governed by existing apportionment rules (section 3325). The act also adds a new section to the U.S. Code and updates the table of sections accordingly.
