Stop the Subsidized Green Energy Scam Act
This bill, titled the Stop the Subsidized Green Energy Scam Act, would terminate federal tax credits for wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects for new facilities whose construction begins after the bill’s enactment. It would remove or redesign the investment tax credit (ITC) and production tax credits (PTC) that currently support wind, solar, and battery storage projects, applying only to projects begun before enactment. The changes affect three main provisions in the Internal Revenue Code: the energy ITC (Section 48), the Clean Electricity Production Tax Credit (Section 45Y), and the Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credit (Section 48E). The bill requires the Treasury Secretary, with input from the Energy Secretary, to issue regulations to implement these changes, and the provisions would take effect for property whose construction begins after enactment. In short, if this bill became law, new wind, solar, and battery storage projects would no longer be eligible for these federal tax credits, potentially reducing federal support for these technologies going forward.
