The Organic Dairy Data Collection Act
The Organic Dairy Data Collection Act would require the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expand and standardize data collection on organic dairy economics. Key aims are to gather and publish cost-of-production data for organic milk (including major organic feed costs and both domestic and imported feed prices) and to create a new Organic All Milk Prices Survey modeled after the existing All Milk Prices Survey. The act also requires USDA to publish periodic organic dairy reports that mirror those for conventional milk, including state-level cost data, regional production data, and prices (including the farmgate or "mailbox" price) for the top six organic-producing regions. Data would be drawn from NASS, ERS, and AMS, with a focus on the six regions with the greatest organic production.
