Supporting the Mental Health of Educators and Staff Act of 2025
The Supporting the Mental Health of Educators and Staff Act of 2025 aims to improve the mental health, well-being, and resiliency of education professionals and other school staff. It does this by (1) identifying and disseminating best practices for suicide prevention and mental health support; (2) creating a national education and awareness initiative to reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking, with reporting on outcomes; (3) establishing new grant programs under the Public Health Service Act to fund mental health promotion and resiliency efforts among the education workforce, including peer-support and access to licensed mental health care (including telehealth); (4) supporting training to embed mental health and substance use disorder strategies into educator preparation and professional development; and (5) mandating reviews and oversight, including GAO reporting to assess program effectiveness and coordination with other federal grant programs. The bill authorizes specific funding levels for these activities in 2026–2028 and prioritizes initiatives in high-poverty school areas. Overall, if enacted, the bill would channel federal funds and guidance toward school-wide mental health supports, reduce stigma around seeking care, and systematically evaluate and improve programs designed to support educators’ mental health across the country.
