VA Flood Preparedness Act

The VA Flood Preparedness Act would amend Title 38 to allow the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to make contributions to local authorities specifically to mitigate flood risk on local property adjacent to Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities, and to include flood risks related to rising sea levels. It also requires a report to Congress within two years assessing each VA medical facility’s flood risk (including sea-level rise) and whether additional resources are needed to address those risks. In short, the bill expands VA’s potential partnerships with local governments to reduce flood risk around VA facilities and mandates a follow-up assessment to guide future resource needs.
