Farmers Feeding America Act
The Farmers Feeding America Act would amend the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to require that SNAP benefits be used to purchase American food products—defined as foods grown, produced, or harvested in the United States and, if processed or manufactured in the United States, made with at least 51 percent domestically sourced ingredients. The bill creates exemptions if a food item is not commercially available in sufficient quantity or quality in the U.S. or if the Secretary of Agriculture grants an undue-burden exemption. It imposes retailer obligations to prioritize American products, with reporting requirements and potential consequences for noncompliance. The act would also establish regulatory guidance, a public awareness campaign, and an annual review to assess impact, with the measure taking effect one year after enactment. The aim is to support domestic agriculture and strengthen U.S. food production by directing SNAP purchases toward American-made foods.
