Control Tower Continuity Act

The Control Tower Continuity Act would change federal law to allow air traffic controllers to remain in service beyond the current mandatory separation age of 61. It does this by removing the age limit in two sections of title 5 and setting a new requirement for medical clearance to apply to controllers aged 61 and older. The amendments would take effect 180 days after enactment. Additionally, within 180 days of enactment, the FAA would be required to update its health program for air traffic control specialists to ensure medical clearance for 61+ controllers expires on the last day of the six-month period after each required examination. The overall aim is to improve continuity of air traffic control operations while maintaining health oversight for older controllers.
