Defend Girls Athletics Act
The Defend Girls Athletics Act would condition federal funding for K-12 schools and colleges on a requirement tied to “biological fairness” in women’s sports. Specifically, it directs elementary and secondary schools to follow Executive Order 14201 (as it relates to keeping men out of women’s sports) and to certify annually that they are in compliance; states would track and report on districts’ compliance. For institutions of higher education, the bill adds a new eligibility condition: colleges and universities must certify annually that they comply with the same Executive Order, or risk losing federal funds and program participation. The Secretary of Education would have authority to withhold or claw back funds for noncompliance. In short, the bill ties ongoing federal support to adherence to a defined standard for participation in women’s sports, with enforcement administered by the federal education agencies.
