To direct the Secretary of Defense to establish a pilot program regarding treating pregnancy as a qualifying event for enrollment in TRICARE Select.
This bill would direct the Secretary of Defense to create a five-year pilot program that treats pregnancy as a qualifying event for enrollment in TRICARE Select. In practical terms, eligible beneficiaries (including service members and their dependents who can enroll in TRICARE Select) could enroll or change their TRICARE enrollment when they become pregnant, rather than being restricted to standard enrollment periods. The pilot is to begin within 180 days of enactment and include ongoing Congressional oversight through briefings and annual reports. The bill also sets up reporting requirements to track how many enrollment changes occur under the pilot, breaking the data down by month (starting in January 2027) and by the reason for the change (e.g., separation from active duty, return to active duty, dependents of those service members, or pregnancy-based enrollment changes). It defines key terms and designates specific congressional committees as the oversight groups for the pilot.
