NTIA Policy and Cybersecurity Coordination Act

H.R. 1766 would create a new Office of Policy Development and Cybersecurity within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Led by an Associate Administrator who reports to the NTIA’s Assistant Secretary, the office would be responsible for national policy analysis and development related to the internet and communications technologies, with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity, privacy, and innovation. Key duties include promoting market-based policies, conducting studies on how Americans access and use digital services, coordinating multi-stakeholder processes for cybersecurity guidance, fostering collaboration between security researchers and providers, and supporting policies that enhance security, resilience, and secure supply chains. The bill also calls for greater data accessibility about innovation and commercialization, and for closer collaboration with small businesses and rural communities, within the Department of Commerce and with other federal and state partners. Transitional provisions rename an existing NTIA associate administrator to the new title and provide continuity of service. The bill has been introduced in the House and referred to the Senate committee.
