HUD Transparency Act of 2025
The HUD Transparency Act of 2025 would make it mandatory for the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Inspector General (HUD OIG) to testify before Congress each year. By October 1, the HUD IG must appear before the House Committee on Financial Services and the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and provide testimony on six topics: efforts to detect and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse; the IG’s ability to conduct audits, investigations, and reviews; actions to help HUD programs progress and succeed; recommendations to improve efficiency and public accountability; whether HUD has sufficient resources to fulfill its mission; and any ongoing activities related to these items. The goal is to increase transparency and scrutiny of HUD operations and the effectiveness of its oversight functions.
