MAGA Act

H.R. 4535, the Make American Guns Again Act of 2025 (MAGA Act), would require the Secretary of Defense to study how many small arms and light weapons used by the U.S. Armed Forces, and parts for those weapons, were manufactured outside the United States or were manufactured in the United States by subsidiaries of foreign-owned entities. Within 180 days of enactment, the Secretary must submit a report to Congress and the President with recommendations aimed at procuring small arms and light weapons that are wholly manufactured in the United States by entities owned and controlled by individuals located in the United States. The bill uses the definition of small arms and light weapons from 32 CFR 273.3. In short, the bill frames a findings-and-recommendations process intended to shift U.S. defense procurement toward fully U.S.-made weapons and components, potentially altering supplier choices and domestic manufacturing emphasis.
