TRANS MICE Act
The TRANS MICE Act would prohibit the use of federal funds for certain animal research. Specifically, it bans federal support for “covered research” that studies methods (drugs, hormones, surgery, or other interventions) to alter the biological sex of a non-human vertebrate, so that the animal’s sex no longer aligns with its biology. The bill defines key terms to determine what counts as covered research, which animals are subject, and which are exempt. Notably, animals that naturally change sex or possess both male and female reproductive organs are exempt from the funding prohibition. The act is titled the TRANS MICE Act and was introduced in the House in July 2025, with several sponsors, and referred to the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. The language emphasizes that the funding ban applies despite any other law.
