Gun Safety Incentive Act
The Gun Safety Incentive Act would promote safer firearm storage through a mix of education, requirements, grant funding, and tax incentives. It would require large manufacturers and importers who serialize at least 250 firearms per year to include a clear written notice promoting safe storage with each firearm, starting in 2027, and to provide a public education website. It also expands the use of safe storage devices to all firearm sales (not just handguns) and creates a grant program funded by the federal government to support states, tribes, and local entities in distributing safe storage devices. In addition, the bill establishes a new tax credit for purchasers of safe storage devices, aimed at reducing unauthorized access to firearms, with a sunset provision after 2032. Overall, the bill seeks to reduce theft and unauthorized access to firearms by normalizing safe storage practices, increasing the availability of storage devices, and offering financial incentives to manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.
