Providing for the public release of certain documents, records, and communications related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein.
This House Resolution (H. Res. 589) directs the Attorney General to publicly release a broad set of documents, records, and communications related to the federal investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and related cases. The release would occur within 30 days after enactment and would cover materials held by the Department of Justice, including the FBI and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, as well as communications among DOJ personnel and materials connected to related cases (e.g., U.S. v. Maxwell, U.S. v. Epstein, Farmer v. United States) and Epstein’s detention or death. The measure aims to increase transparency by making these records searchable, downloadable, and accessible to the public, subject to specified privacy, safety, and national security exemptions. It also requires a reporting back to Congress detailing what was released or withheld, and the basis for any redactions, with a focus on identifying individuals mentioned in the materials. In short, the resolution would compel the executive branch to reveal Epstein-related material (with narrowly tailored redactions) and to justify and publicize any remaining redactions or classifications, while providing a clear congressional post-release audit trail.
