SHOWER Act

The SHOWER Act would change the federal definition of “showerhead” in the Energy Policy and Conservation Act by tying it to the current ASME plumbing standard ASME A112.18.1-2024, with an explicit exception for safety shower showerheads. It also requires the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to revise its regulations within 180 days to align with this new definition. In effect, the bill aims to clarify which products are regulated under federal energy-efficiency standards by adopting a specific plumbing standard and excluding emergency safety showers, potentially narrowing or refining coverage of showerhead efficiency requirements.
