To establish new ZIP Codes for certain communities, and for other purposes.
This bill would require the United States Postal Service (USPS) to designate a single, unique ZIP Code for eight specific communities within 270 days of enactment. The eight communities are Eastvale, California; Scotland, Connecticut; Cooper City, Florida; Miami Lakes, Florida; Ocoee, Florida; Village of Estero, Florida; Urbandale, Iowa; and Mills, Wyoming. The measure does not create new government powers beyond forcing USPS to assign new codes, nor does it specify funding for the change. It is an early-stage proposal that has passed the House and been referred to a Senate committee for consideration. What this means in practice is that residents and businesses in these communities would begin using new ZIP Codes for mail and address records, and USPS systems would have to update routing, databases, and related processes accordingly. The actual ZIP Code numbers would be determined by USPS.
