Quad Economic Security Act
Quad Economic Security Act would direct the Secretary of State, with the Secretary of Commerce, to pursue negotiations with the other Quad countries (Japan, Australia, and India) to establish an Economic Security Working Group within the Quad. The group would aim to secure critical supply chains, protect infrastructure, counter economic coercion, and address disruptions to supply chains, including through crisis simulations and a collective emergency response mechanism for sectors vital to national security. The United States would be represented at a senior level (Deputy Assistant Secretary of State or equivalent). The bill also encourages regional engagement (e.g., port infrastructure and undersea cable security) and requires reports identifying critical supply chains and regional partners. Notably, the measure does not authorize new funding and would be carried out using existing appropriations. The bill was introduced in the Senate by Senators Bennet and Ricketts on July 22, 2025.
