Ensuring Casualty Assistance for our Firefighters Act
This bill would require the Secretary of the Interior to create a Wildland Fire Management Casualty Assistance Program within six months of enactment. The program would provide structured support to the next-of-kin of firefighters and wildland fire personnel who are killed or seriously ill/injured in the line of duty. It covers notifications, travel reimbursements for family visits, training and duties of casualty assistance personnel, case management, and access to information about federal benefits. It also establishes a process for complaints, agency liaisons (with the Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, and Social Security Administration), and data collection on casualty assistance. The program is additive to existing Line of Duty Death benefits and includes a defined order for who qualifies as next-of-kin.
