Preventing Fraudulent ICE Impersonation Act of 2025

The Preventing Fraudulent ICE Impersonation Act of 2025 builds a tighter legal framework to curb impersonation of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and the unauthorized use or sale of ICE apparel and insignia. The bill makes it unlawful for non-officers to wear or display ICE branding in a way that could be mistaken for a real ICE officer, and it bans the manufacture, sale, or distribution of ICE apparel or insignia without DHS authorization. Penalties include up to 7 years in prison and fines, with civil penalties up to $100,000 per violation. The act also enables seizure of unauthorized ICE items and requires a 6-month minimum sentencing enhancement for impersonation of an immigration official. It directs DHS to run public awareness efforts, establish a national reporting mechanism (hotline and online portal), and requires regular studies reported to Congress. Finally, it sets a regulatory deadline for DHS to issue implementing rules within 180 days of enactment.
