Fix Our Flooded Basements Act of 2025
The Fix Our Flooded Basements Act of 2025 would expand and broaden federal disaster assistance for flood-damaged basements under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. It would remove limits that current programs place on basement repairs (such as only restoring spaces used for occupancy) and extend coverage to mold, mildew, and moisture damage associated with major disasters. It also strengthens personal-property assistance to align more closely with the standards of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy (SFIP) for basements, including below-ground contents. Additionally, the bill would require regulatory updates to expand the Group Flood Insurance Policy to more applicants and broaden its basement-related coverage, including mold and other related damages. It also tightens how much financial aid can be provided by excluding certain mitigation costs and group policy premiums from the maximum aid cap. Overall, the bill aims to make federal disaster aid for flooded basements more comprehensive and accessible.
