INSPECT Act of 2025

The INSPECT Act of 2025 would require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to assign, for the period it takes to transfer all spent nuclear fuel from pools to dry storage, a resident inspector to each commercial nuclear power plant that has permanently ceased operations. The inspector would oversee decommissioning activities and spent fuel transfer activities at the plant. If there are no such activities at the plant, the NRC may reassign the inspector to other duties. The goal is to bolster safety oversight during the decommissioning process and the transfer of spent fuel to dry storage.
