EATS Act of 2025
The EATS Act of 2025 (Enhance Access To SNAP Act) would expand access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for students in higher education by removing the current eligibility disqualifications that apply to many college students. Specifically, the bill would treat bona fide students enrolled at least half-time in any recognized school or institution of higher education as eligible under SNAP, as long as they meet the general SNAP eligibility rules (income, resources, etc.). It repeals the provision that previously barred higher-education students unless they satisfied restrictive requirements found in subsection (e). The act takes effect on January 2, 2026. In short, the measure aims to simplify and broaden SNAP eligibility for college students, reducing or eliminating the special student exemptions that limited participation.
