TEACH Act

The TEACH Act would prohibit the National Education Association (NEA) from engaging in lobbying activities at the federal level. It would amend Title 36 of the U.S. Code (the federal chartering framework) by adding a new section that bars NEA from lobbying, requires an annual certification to the Secretary of Education that NEA has not lobbied, and mandates maintaining records for audit purposes. If NEA violates the prohibition, the bill would terminate its status as a federally chartered corporation. A clerical amendment would add the new section to the legislative table of sections. In effect, the bill aims to end NEA’s lobbying influence with the federal government by tying compliance to the loss of its federal charter.
