Student Visa Integrity Act of 2025
The Student Visa Integrity Act of 2025 is a broad reform package aimed at tightening oversight of the student and exchange visitor visa programs (SEVIS/SEVP). It heightens penalties for fraud and noncompliance, requires accreditation for most institutions and related programs, increases transparency around Chinese government funding, expands reporting and accountability for schools, recruiters, and employers, and imposes new restrictions on language study, flight training, and admission of nationals from certain countries or adversarial nations. It also sets stricter rules around the duration of stay for student visa holders, adds new enforcement tools (including immediate sanctions for fraud), and broadens the grounds for revoking approvals or accreditation. In short, the bill seeks to reduce abuse and security risks in the student visa system while expanding government oversight and eligibility controls. If enacted, the bill would likely make it more costly and complex for institutions to participate in SEVIS, could reduce the number of international students in some programs, and increase screening and monitoring of students, schools, and employers involved with nonimmigrant study status.
