A joint resolution providing for congressional disapproval of the proposed foreign military sale to the Government of Israel of certain defense articles and services.

This joint resolution (S. J. Res. 34) would prohibit a proposed foreign military sale to the Government of Israel described in Transmittal No. 25-26 under the Arms Export Control Act. The sale consists of Major Defense Equipment (MDE) and related non-MDE items, including: 201 MK 83 MOD 4/5 1,000-pound bomb bodies; 4,799 BLU-110A/B 1,000-pound bomb bodies; 1,500 KMU-559C/B JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) guidance kits for the MK 83 bomb body; and 3,500 KMU-559J/B JDAM guidance kits. It also includes U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services, plus other related logistics and program support. The measure reflects Congress’s power to block proposed major weapons sales and would, if enacted, bar this specific sale from proceeding. The bill is introduced in the Senate by Sen. Sanders and forwarded to the Foreign Relations Committee. It uses the congressional disapproval mechanism under the Arms Export Control Act (AECA Section 36(b)(1)) to prevent the sale from moving forward.
