MAP for Broadband Funding Act

The MAP for Broadband Funding Act would require the FCC (the Commission), working with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), to modernize and strengthen the Broadband Funding Map used to track federal broadband funding. The goal is to improve data quality, timeliness, and transparency so federal dollars are used more efficiently and to prevent overlapping or redundant funding for broadband deployment. The bill also calls for two major reviews: a public inquiry within 270 days of enactment to assess how the map functions, what data it includes, and how it could be improved; and a Government Accountability Office (GAO) study within 180 days to evaluate how federal agencies gather and submit data for the map, how well the map is managed, and whether current authorities and coordination are adequate. The act frames the map as the Deployment Locations Map from existing infrastructure funding laws and emphasizes coordinating across multiple federal agencies to maximize taxpayer savings.
