Streamlining Rural Broadband Act of 2025
The Streamlining Rural Broadband Act of 2025 would terminate the Community Connect Grant program administered by the Department of Agriculture and repeal its enabling provision (Section 604 of the Rural Electrification Act of 1936). It would also make conforming changes to remove references to that program in related statutes. Most notably, the bill directs any unobligated balances from the Community Connect program at the time of enactment to be available to the existing ReConnect broadband loan and grant program without requiring new appropriations. In short, the bill eliminates a separate grant program and shifts any unspent Community Connect funds to support the ReConnect program, aiming to consolidate and streamline federal rural broadband funding.
