DHS Suicide Prevention and Resiliency for Law Enforcement Act
The DHS Suicide Prevention and Resiliency for Law Enforcement Act would create a new, DHS-wide Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Program. Run within the department under the Chief Medical Officer, the program aims to improve mental health, resilience, and suicide prevention for DHS law enforcement personnel across components (such as CBP, ICE, Coast Guard, Secret Service, TSA, OIG, and others with law enforcement duties). It would establish policies, data collection and research on mental health and suicides, training, peer-support networks, family support, and inter-component coordination, all with confidentiality protections. The bill also requires regular reporting to Congress and directs ongoing oversight and funding subject to appropriations.
