MEDIC Careers Act of 2025
The MEDIC Careers Act of 2025 aims to improve how military medics transition into civilian health care careers and to expand targeted support for separating service members pursuing health care employment. It requires the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security (with Coast Guard matters) to develop recommendations with state partners and federal agencies on credentialing, bridging military medic credentials to civilian licenses, and facilitating smoother transitions. The bill also creates a Health Care Workforce Preparedness and Response Pilot Program that would grant funds to eligible providers—primarily in underserved areas—to hire, train, and retain separating service members for civilian health care jobs. The program emphasizes licensing and credentialing support and coordination with existing transition programs, and it includes reporting requirements and a dedicated funding authorization. In short, the act prioritizes translating military medic experience into civilian credentials, expanding bridge programs and targeted training, and using grant-based incentives to place separating service members into civilian health care roles—especially in rural or medically underserved communities—while tracking outcomes and ensuring collaboration among DOD, DHS, VA, HHS, and DOL.
