Local Gun Violence Reduction Act
The Local Gun Violence Reduction Act would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services (through the CDC) to create and maintain a local gun violence prevention laws database within one year of enactment. Local and state governments would enter information about laws or ordinances they have enacted to reduce gun violence and how effective those measures have been in reducing violence or gun deaths, including pre- and post-implementation violence data. The database would be searchable by other governments, and the Secretary would conduct outreach to encourage use. Starting two years after enactment, the Secretary would report to Congress biennially on the number and topics of submissions, which laws have shown success, and geographic participation levels. The bill authorizes appropriations of $1.5 million for FY2026 and $1 million for FY2027 and beyond to carry out these provisions.
